The Living Gallery

For years, the trophies and plaques that line our halls have been a cherished part of our décor—but they are so much more than that. They are a lasting record of our members' expertise, passion, and sportsmanship.

As Secretary and member of the Key Biscayne Yacht Club History Committee, my initial mission was to inventory and catalog every award, plaque, and photograph in the building to ensure the stories behind those triumphs are captured before they fade away. In order to modernize our archives and create a more interactive experience, I envisioned and designed a new QR code system linked directly to a dedicated History Blog I created.

Today, through this system, the history of our club is in the palm of your hands. Whether you scan to read a story or listen to the voices of our past, you can now connect directly with the legacy of the races, the sailors, and the members who came before us. This use of technology transforms our physical collection into a "living gallery" featuring full descriptions, historical images, videos, and narrated voiceovers.

I am Past Seabelle Captain Nelly Palmer, and I invite you to discover the amazing history of your club by scanning the QR codes located by the trophies and at each History Committee member’s exhibit.

As you exit this evening, please leave a note and your contact information in our Memory Books. We value your comments and would love to hear from you if you have materials to share. For any questions or digital submissions, you can reach me and our entire team at historian@kbyc.org.

Together, we can preserve our legacy for generations to come.
