As we look toward our future, we must ensure the voices that built our foundation are never lost. Past Commodore Rosemary Sala-Rifkin, of the 63rd Watch and Vice-Chair of the History Committee, is leading the vital charge to capture the "living history" of the Key Biscayne Yacht Club.
Rosemary’s connection to our Club is deeply personal. As the daughter of the late Past Commodore Juan Sala of the 46th Watch, she possesses a profound understanding of the stories, traditions, and pivotal changes that have shaped our club’s culture.
Her mission is an urgent one: to gather all existing audio and video archives and to conduct filmed interviews with our senior members before their invaluable stories fade away. Many of these members are the patriarchs and matriarchs of multi-generational Key Biscayne Yacht Club families—the very people who taught our children how to fish and how to sail. Beyond the docks, these seniors are scholars, artists, high-level executives, and military veterans, who brought their extraordinary life experiences to the service of our Club.
Rosemary is asking for your help to ensure no story goes untold. If you know of senior members—including those who may have moved away or lost touch—please connect them with the committee. We wish to arrange interviews, preferably on camera, to preserve their legacy for future generations of members.
Together, with Rosemary’s leadership, we will ensure that the spirit of those who came before us remains a permanent part of our recorded history.
You can connect with Rosemary or any of the history committee members at history@kbyc.org.
